What is Hand Therapy?
Hand Therapy is the art and science of rehabilitation of the upper limb. It involves evaluation and testing to assess the injured limb from which a specific treatment program can be designed. A variety of specialised treatment techniques are used to achieve your goals.
What is a Hand Therapist?
Hand Therapists are registered Physiotherapists or Occupational Therapists who, through further education, clinical experience and independent study have become proficient in the treatment of upper limb conditions resulting from injury, disease or deformity. At Toowoomba Hand Therapy we are all Occupational Therapists.
Why is Hand Therapy Important?
Early referral is essential to ensure an optimal outcome. This allows the application of a splint to protect the injured area and the commencement of exercises to prevent stiffness (if able).
Early intervention also allows commencement of education regarding precautions and, in the case of overuse injuries, activity modification. This assists in early return to work without risk of reinjury.
